Election laughs

Below is the funniest reply to my request for a vote in the elections to UCD governing body. It came from an old friend who did commerce, and indeed continues to create wealth so that lefties like me can work out how to get it redistributed...

Your problem is that you haven't thought your position through. If we
introduce fees again we can prevent the riff-raff from getting into college,
come to think of it why don't we privatise the entire secondary (and
primary) school system. The higher dropout rate among the less well off
would ensure a steady flow of applicants for all those jobs that we have to
ship Johnny Foreigners from Croatia in to do. With fewer schools to fund (we
could eliminate school funding altogether if we let the church back in.... a
sort of quid pro quo for that whole Redress Scheme debacle!!) we can
allocate more resources to tax friendly multi-storey car parks in
Belmullet.... surely it's time that we gave something back to the honest
hard-working professional elite of this country who slave endlessly for ?400
an hour!!

When you think about it, advanced education does nothing but cause deep
rooted problems, before you know where you are people start asking questions
and thinking about who they should vote for. Busybodies like Emily O'Reilly
starting bleating on about what we've lost over the last decade, what's she
talking about?? I am one deal away from a BMW X5 and a deposit on a nice
little holiday home in ******** (strictly speaking it's not a holiday
home from my perspective as I can deduct the rental income from my overall
income tax liability....hence we can't really afford the associated
opportunity cost of actually staying there ourselves).

On a final note I'm with you all the way on the Symbolic moral issues
thingy...... Awards of honorary degrees should indeed be submitted to proper
scrutiny. May I make a humble suggestion and propose a minimum contribution
level of ?50,000 to the college (preferably to be invested in something
valuable such as the development of effective masking agents for human drugs
used in animals..... I really don't know what all the fuss is about, it's
particularly embarrassing for Sir Anthony after all that he has given to
this country).

On balance there is a great deal of common ground on our positions although
I remain somewhat concerned as to how far you want to extend the 'Outreach'
program. We must be careful not to open the floodgates!!!
